Mascate

We reached Mascate through Bahreïn. Prices for the flights are interesting because Gulf companies have access to an almost free oil (it cost 430 euros to go and return). Mascate is a very large city composed by the old town, where the palace of the Sultan is located and by its side, Mutrah, the port where can be found the great souk, the shops of the fishermen and the yacht of the sultan (long. 120 m !)

Mascate has developped around 3 different bays. The most modern part of the city has an « american » morphology, without skyscrapers. The sultan has decided not to follow the gigantism of his neighbours. There are big buildings, international hotels, as anywhere else, and a wonderful opera that recently opened its doors.

In Sur, the city of gaz, can be found gaz liquefaction factories and some othe industries, including a factory to turn sea water into water dedicated to human consumption.
